So, it’s only the second week of our Friday Five series and already we are running late on it! Jeez-laweez, can we get our act together over here or what?! I guess in our defense, WHAT a week we’ve had. We have been all over the map trying to finish up our first big reno project before we headed out of town (update at the end), and this week just slipped by! Anyways, here are my top fives for the week.
1. $4.5k trip giveaway
2. Mobile Passport
Mobile Passport is a new(ish) app that basically makes customs a bit more of a breeze when coming into the States from international trips. Just add your passport info, move the app over into your “Travel” folder and pull it up when you are back on US soil. It streamlines the process a little more and means that you don’t have to deal with finding a pen on the airplane to fill out that pesky customs form. Win-win.
3. Assorted Mother’s Day Savings
Best Buy has a new logo and is having a pretty sweet sale on Apple products to celebrate (OK, maybe that’s not the reason why, but a sale is a sale). Save $250 to $350 on Macbooks, and add an extra $50 to that if you are a student! If you are in the market for a new computer or iPhone, this is one of the better sales / prices I’ve seen for Apple products.
If you have a Southwest trip coming up soon, save a solid 10% on $100 gift cards on eBay. A reminder though, that a maximum of 3 gift cards can be applied to a given sale. However, you can easily get around this restriction by booking one-way trips as separate purchases. Grab some gift cards to stash for a future trip, or book a trip to surprise Mom for Mother’s Day!
And if you make any purchases, don’t forget to activate or get an Ebates account to snag an additional percent off.
4. Chase Sapphire Preferred
In advance of our next international trip, Sarah applied and was approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred card. Chase has a rule that if you’ve opened 5 cards with any bank in the past 24 months (un-affectionately known as the 5/24 rule), you’ll automatically be declined. This is too bad, since Chase has the best cards in the biz, and requires us to be super strategic and intentional with our applications. Anyways, she was approved and we will be funneling all of our normal spending onto this card until we hit the minimum spend and get the $625 in travel rewards. More details here on what I’m talking about!
5. First house reno
I’m finishing off this week with some pictures of our updated driveway reno project. We previously had basically an extra driveway in our yard, but I’m a big fan of grass. In an effort to reclaim the yard, but also keep the functionality of a two-car driveway, we decided to add an additional car pad to the end of our existing driveway. I dug it all out, moved all the stone from the old driveway into the hole as a base and added sand to help with leveling. We picked up some old clay bricks from a Facebook trading site and then it was all down to making it happen. It was a long week of working on it, but we are both really pleased with the final project. Below is a photo story of the transition (and yeah, we need to get better at taking consistent pictures).
